Day 2 of the combine showed off the QBs, WRs, and RBs. I listed a few players at each position and some notes to give you an idea of what i saw.

AJ McCarron, QB, Alabama – Meh. He’s got ‘project’ written all over him. Needs help with his footwork and mechanics big time. He is a really great anticipator, but you don’t get to see that much here.

Jordan Lynch, QB, NIU – Not a QB. Just lacks a lot. Not fast enough to be a RB. He just lacks everything in terms of a QB. No velocity on his passes.

Jimmy Garoppolo, QB, Eastern Illinois – Love him. Not a top QB though. Great footwork. Lighting quick release. Super accurate short passes. Never faced top competition in college.

Blake Bortles, QB, UCF – Most impressive QB by far. Looked great throwing. Good athlete. Great touch on his passes.

Logan Thomas, QB, VT – Most physically imposing QB out there. Measures great. Looked OK in drills. So inconsistent.

Wide Receivers:

Philly Brown, WR, Ohio State – Shocking athlete. Looks good in drills

Brandin Cooks, WR, Oklahoma State – Stud. Fast as lightning. Super quick. Above average in drills. If Tavon Austin went in the top 10 last year, how does Cooks not go in the top 20 this year?

Mike Evans, WR, Texas A&M – Welcome to the top 13! Great 40 time (4.53). Catches everything. Good athlete. Showed what we needed to see.

Odell Beckham, WR, LSU – Way faster than i thought. 4.43 in the 40. Looks great in drills. 1st rounder?

Marqise Lee, WR, USC – Not as fast as I thought. I still think he plays faster. I don’t think he hurt himself. Just didn’t impress.

Paul Richardson, WR, CSU – Desean Jackson? Looks like him. Blazing fast. Very intriguing.

Donte Moncrief, WR, Ole Miss – Sleeper. Big and fast. Drops a lot of balls. Ran fast enough to get him into day 2.

Sammy Watkins, WR, Clemson – Total Package. Great hands and showed them off. Fast as we thought.

Running backs:

Ka’Deem Carey, RB, Arizona – Big disappointment. Way slower than we thought at 209 lbs. Tight hips

Dri Archer, RB, Kent St. – Blazing. Fastest 40 time in years. 4.26. Best hips of any player here. Not really a RB though. Slot WR?

Jeremy Hill, RB, LSU – Speed matches his weight. Was hoping he’d run faster. Catches really well surprisingly.

Carlos Hyde, RB, Ohio State – Pulled hammy. Done for the day.

Tyler Gaffney, RB, Stanford – Shocking. 4.49 40. Never would have thought. Effort guy. Looks good. Bet he’s great in pass protection

Tre Mason, RB, Auburn – Love this guy. I think he will be the best RB of the group. Speed matches his size. Great hips. Effort guy.

Bishop Sankey, RB, Washington – Fast. Good all around. Decent hips. Not super impressive though.

Lache Seastrunk, RB, Baylor – Not sure why everyone thought he’d run fast. I didn’t see it on tape. Still not slow. Crazy explosion. Great athlete. As expected in drills. Shifty.

De’Anthony Thomas, RB, Oregon – Shocked he ran what he did (4.50). Still looked quick more than fast. All around great athlete. So small though.

James White, RB, Wisconsin – Slower 40 than expected. I tend to think he is faster than the 4.57 he showed. Think he will be good. Solid athlete. Good hips.
