It looks like things are really beginning to come together for the Indians as they make the stretch run to the post season. Taking 2 of 3 from the Tigers, winning both games of the rain shortened series with the Twins, then going into Chicago and taking 2 of 3 there and suddenly your Cleveland Indians are just a game and a half back of Detroit heading into this weekend’s tilt with the Tigers. Last night, Justin Masterson continued his trend of giving the Indians all the pitching you could ask for going 6 strong innings while giving up just two runs on 7 scattered hits. The difference last night was the Tribe offense gave Masterson more run support than he’s been used to as of late, thanks in large part to Kosuke Fukudome’s 3 for 4 night in which he scored two runs and tripled home Shin-Soo Choo with the go-ahead run in the 6th. Chris Perez came in and closed the door in the 9th for his 27th save, though the game wasn’t without a little drama. Vinnie Pestano, Godfather of The Bullpen Mafia, loaded the bases in the bottom of the 8th but did his job by striking out slumping Gordon Beckham to end the inning with no damage done.

Now the Indians head to Detroit to take on a Tiger team looking to avenge the two losses from last week, and make some space between them and the Tribe. Rested after a Thursday night off, you can bet your peanuts and Cracker Jacks that they are looking to keep slow down the surging Indians and maintain their hold on the AL Central’s top spot. Can the momentum the Tribe has been building carry through this all important weekend? We shall see!
