Make no mistake about it. Fausto Carmona’s jersey may say CLEVELAND on it, but the Chicago White Sox have owned him. Twice this year they have beaten him like he owed them money. In two outings this year versus the Sox, Carmona has given up 18 runs on 18 hits in 8 innings, giving him an ERA of 20.25 against them in 2010. That’s an average of 4 innings per game, the antithesis of a quality start. But tonight Fausto was impressive and in control going 8 and 1/3, giving up a single run off an Alexi Ramirez homer in the 2nd. He struck out 6, but was able to lure the Sox into grounding out 17 times, thanks to a sinker ball that was putting on 10 lbs each time it approached the plate. Best of all, Carmona did this tonight against Mark Buehrle, who has pitched very well over his last several outings. The Indians’ runs came by way of an RBI single in the second from Jack Hannahan that scored Jason Donald (guys who aren’t even on their own mothers’ fantasy teams), and RBIs from Shin-Soo Choo (Marson), Asdrubal Cabrera (Brantley), and Kosuke Fukudome (Santana). The win gives the Tribe sole posession of second place in the AL Central, two games behind the division leading Tigers.

Should the Indians win the division, its going to take every available arm for them to make it deep into the post-season. While the jury is still out on the Jimenez trade, an improving Fausto Carmona (2-2 with a 2.25 ERA since coming off the DL)
